4. What does wellness mean to you?

To me, wellness means staying grounded—spiritually, mentally, and physically. I believe in making small, daily choices like taking walks, drinking enough water, getting fresh air, and creating space to breathe and reflect. My favorite self-care routine is early morning quiet time with scripture meditation, followed by physical exercise—it sets the tone for my entire day.

5. How do you balance life, work, and taking care of yourself?

I’m still figuring that out! What helps me most is honoring the season I’m in. Not every day is perfectly balanced—and that’s okay. I try to set boundaries around work, make space for family time, and protect at least one quiet moment each day just for me—even if it’s only 10 minutes. Letting go of perfection has been key.

6. What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?

I’m hard of hearing in one ear. God rescued me from a dangerously large brain tumor that destroyed my cochlear nerve. I recently had the opportunity to share my story at FaithStorytellers.com.

7. What’s one piece of advice you’d give to other women chasing their dreams or healing their bodies?

Don’t wait for the perfect time. Start small, stay consistent, and surround yourself with people who speak life into you. Your story, your healing, and your dream are uniquely yours—and they matter!

8. Do you have a favorite place, product, or local business you love and want to shout out?

I love supporting local businesses, and one of my absolute favorites is my massage therapist, Laura, at Simply Healing Massage. I’ve had many massages over the years, and Laura is hands down the best! Her background in sports therapy means she truly understands the body—she not only gives an incredible massage but also knows how to stretch and release tension in all the right places.

9. What are you currently working on or excited about?

I recently created a healthy protein ice cream that’s naturally sweetened with monk fruit and honey, made with puréed cottage cheese, and high-quality grass-fed casein protein. I’m currently experimenting with incorporating dried plants into my ice cream base to add vitamins and nutrients—my goal is to make delicious and satisfying treats that also nourish the body.

10. Where can readers find or follow you?

You can follow my ice cream journey on Instagram at @scoopsnswirls—I share weekly flavors, behind-the-scenes fun, and pieces of my story there.

1. Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m Sarah Smith, a wife, mom, and ice cream artisan living in Bulverde, Texas. I’m the founder of Scoops n’ Swirls, a handcrafted ice cream business I run from home. I’m also the co-author of Modern Day Miracles, an autobiography my mom and I wrote together about our healing journey. I love being creative, spending time outdoors, and making memories with family and friends.

2. What inspired you to start your journey—personally or professionally?

Scoops n’ Swirls began as a fun outlet during a season of waiting and healing while I was hoping to grow my family. In a part of life where I couldn’t control, making ice cream became a light-hearted, creative way to stay grounded in hope. What started as a side hobby quickly turned into a small business built on love, prayer, and really good ingredients. It’s been a gift to not only pour my heart into something meaningful, but also to connect with my community, spread joy, and make new friends along the way.

3. What is a big challenge you have faced, and how did you overcome it?

For over a decade, I was trapped in a cycle of yo-yo dieting, constantly chasing an ideal of health that left me with disordered eating and anxiety around food. By the grace of God, I found freedom from that addiction in college and began rebuilding a healthier, more peaceful relationship with food. I stopped labeling foods as good or bad and learned to eat intuitively, with balance and joy. I focused on practicing self-control while also reclaiming my self-worth.
